Give Peas A Chance

Whirled Peas has again come together. This time under the expert guidance of one of our own Peas, Fritz Horisk, who has recorded and mixed as well as arranged all of the songs on this CD. This is our second CD, which we anticipate again will show the diversity that a group of guys who get together every Wednesday night can create. We continue with our Wednesday nights at Up the Creek from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM as along as that venue and the Peas may last. For those of you who are hearing us for the first time we invite you to hang out with us in person and interact with us in our informal setting. We continue to perform concert settings for various groups to whom we are most thankful and who are appreciative of our music. We may suggest that these CDs will undoubtedly become collector’s items since it is unlikely that thousands will be pressed - and if not hidden in your CD player creating music for you – would look wonderful on your mantelpiece. We wish to express our thanks to Sharon and Frank Baker, who have unselfishly donated their studio space for the creation of this CD, and to our loyal fans – and in particular, our five loyal Pea Heads who just never seem to miss our performances or our Wednesday nights. As you all may be aware we have a lot of fun making music, and it has been our high intention for that fun and our bond as musicians and friends to come through on this CD. We can only look forward to seeing our next CD.

Peas In Our Time

Whirled Peas is a group of musicians that come together on a regular basis to share our love of blues, bluegrass and folk music with an occasional departure into rock, oldies and show tunes. Our first CD was produced as a complimentary album and fulfilled our delusion that we should be memorialized before our respective winters set in. We were actually encouraged by our producer, Jonathan Blair of Crocodile Tunes, who demanded that we record in the studio the weekend of the 2004 hurricane, which is a metaphor for something... Thanks to our fans, the PeaHeads, and our growing following we are re-releasing the CD with our best songs. The special talents of our ensemble need mentioning: John Frink and Fritz Horisk, our musicians extraordinaire who handled quality control with tact - John Gallagher unselfishly provides sound equipment and expertise - Jack Scott who is in charge of enthusiasm and the banjo - Gary Estes helps us keep our roots traditional - Dave Kelly is our principal departure musician and string breaker - Charlie McCloskey is known for his guts (both voice and guitar) - Todd Breck the Genesis of Whirled Peas, handles Pea business the old fashioned way, he fakes it - Frank Baker, being the funniest man alive, makes sure we don't take ourselves too seriously. Hope you enjoy the contents as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Peas De Resistance

Whirled Peas with great enthusiasm offers for your listening pleasure our 3rd CD in response to our loyal Pea Head fans who follow us where ever we play. These recordings were made in the studios of Peter von Glahn, 3rd Floor Enterprises, LLC. The initial recording sessions took place in 2009 and were finalized in 2011. Thanks to Rebecca Dunne for accelerating the production process. Each member is a lead vocalist or instrumentalist on at least one track on each album. The Whirled Peas began as a gathering of individual musicians each with his/her own material. As the individual songs morphed into arrangements, they became Whirled Peas repertoire. The song selection for this CD consists of many of our current favorites. Here you will find songs with varied origins: some original, some traditional and some cover tunes. We are sad to announce that some attrition is occurring as Jim Rockwell and Rebecca Dunne will be moving away from the area. Occasionally, guest musicians join us at our Wednesday evening gatherings and we hope to see Rebecca and Jim returning soon. Above all, we hope you'll enjoy this collection of Whirled Peas songs.

Peas Be With You

Here is our 4th assortment of songs by the Whirled Peas, the group that performs for its own amazement. As we look back into our hazy past we are shocked to realize that so much time has elapsed since our modest beginning when Frank Baker and Todd Breck started playing for anyone would listen sometime around 1997. It was evident that in addition to needing help, they also enjoyed the companionship and artistry of the gathering of Peas, as they morphed into what the Whirled Peas are today. For many years at Up the Creek before we changed our name from Free Beer to the Whirled Peas, the group was solely acoustic and without amplification. This was fine until we developed a following. Although we were pleased to have an adoring audience, we found we could no longer hear one another. That's a problem for an ensemble group that plays off each other's harmonies. The need for sound augmentation started slowly: some individuals with gentle voices needed amplification and brought their own equipment. It soon became evident that we as a group needed a balanced sound platform. One of our steady fans, Peter von Glahn, started to bring sound equipment in for us in an effort to unify our sound approach. Peter, who now manages 3rd Floor Enterprises LLC, has become our go-to sound engineer for our weekly gatherings. He is also an integral part of Whirled Peas, providing equipment and sound for our numerous outside music engagements and serving as our recording and editing engineer for our CDs. His time, talent and reliability are a formidable asset to Whirled Peas. Listen, enjoy and come see and hear us play live when you're ready for an enthusiastic and eclectic musical experience.
